“Can You Beat the Heat?”
So you are thinking about becoming a firefighter.
Being a firefighter is one of the most challenging and rewarding ways to serve your community. You will be saving life and protecting property during various emergency situations. It is both physically and mentally demanding. It requires many hours of preparation and training.
What are the benefits of becoming a firefighter?
The personal rewards and satisfaction each firefighter receives from the service is beyond description. Imagine the pride you will experience controlling a structure fire, the accomplishment of safely extricating a family from their vehicle after a multiple car collision, or the excitement on a child’s face after a fire safety and prevention presentation. These are just a few examples of why we do what we do.
Don’t make your decision too quickly.
Deciding to become a firefighter should not be made lightly. Firefighting is not for everyone. You need courage, dedication, motivation, and a willingness to face new challenges. You will be expected to perform hot, dirty and strenuous work in hazardous and stressful environments. You must devote countless hours (especially in the beginning) to training, both hands-on and classroom. You will be expected to assist in performing testing and maintenance to the equipment, washing the apparatuses, performing administrative tasks and cleaning the station, just to mention a few.
So you still think this is for you?
Excellent…Four Oaks Volunteer Fire Department is always looking for dedicated individuals who are motivated to make a positive difference in their community.
